Revenue in Virginia
Approximately thirty percent of Maryland’s casino revenue comes from Virginia residents. That money, and the taxes generated from it, should stay in Virginia. Virginia is losing approximately $106 million in tax revenues to Maryland from Virginia resident visiting Maryland casinos.
A Northern Virginia casino would generate approximately $140 million of gaming tax revenue for northern Virginia and the rest of the Commonwealth according to a JLARC study.
Also, a Northern Virginia casino/hotel would generate tax revenue from the tourism and business travel that Northern Virginia and Washington, DC attract thus adding additional revenues to Virginia’s tax base.

Approximately ninety percent of the tax revenue generated from a Northern Virginia casino would go to the school construction fund which would benefit school districts through Virginia.
JLARC estimates that a casino in Northern Virginia would create 3,200 new jobs.
JLARC determined that a Northern Virginia casino would pose little competition to existing Virginia casinos because of geographic separation.
